ADL Laser Hair Removal
ADL Laser hair removal is a procedure that uses a laser, an intense, pulsating beam of light to remove unwanted hair. A laser beam passes through the skin to an individual hair follicle. Pigment in the hair follicle absorbs energy from the laser in its active growth phase. The energy is converted into heat to stun the follicle without harming the surrounding tissue. The advanced dual cooling system ensures the treatment has zero down time. To permanently reduce hair growth a course of 6-8 treatments is recommended. Inevitably there will be a few hair follicles that escape the laser during each treatment. We would recommend a periodic visit to assess any growth.
How to prepare for laser hair removal?
You should avoid waxing, plucking and sun exposure to the area for at least four weeks before your treatment and continue until you have completed the course. There are many contraindications associated with laser hair removal, please discuss any conditions you may have or medication you are currently taking during your free consultation. You will be required to take a patch test prior to your course. Once your course is booked, please shave the area two or three days prior to each treatment. This will allow your hair growth to be assessed at each visit.
What to expect during your treatment?
You will be required to complete and sign your initial consultation form on each visit to confirm any changes and any new medication you may be taking. The melanin in your skin will be measured using our unique electrical Melaninnometer. This will pre-set the energy levels specific to your skin type for added safety to reduce pain and optimise results. You will need to wear appropriate eye protection. A cold gel will be applied to areas for treatment. This will help the laser to penetrate the skin and act as a cooling device. Depending on the technique most suitable for the area and your skin type, you should feel almost none or very little pain. The treatment is very quick, a typical chest area would take no more than 30 minutes. Once the treatment is complete, the gel will be removed with a cold compress reducing any heat still present in the skin. Ice packs are available should you experience any further discomfort.
What to expect after your treatment.
Your skin may feel slightly sunburned for a couple of days after treatments. We ask that you refrain from physical activities, swimming, steam rooms and saunas for 48 hours after any laser hair removal treatment. Please avoid any sun exposure for the duration of your course. You must wear SPF50 on all areas treated that may be exposed to daylight to prevent any changes in melanin levels and eliminate any side effects. Blisters are rare but are more likely in clients with darker complexions. Other potential side effects are swelling, redness and scarring. Permanent scarring or changes in skin colour are very rare. Should you experience any of these side effects apply a cool compress to the area and please contact us. The treated hair will fall out in the next couple of weeks. You should notice a considerable difference even after the first treatment. It is important that you complete the full course. Inevitably there will be a few hair follicles that escape the laser during each treatment. Some hair follicles may not be in their growth stage for as long as three months.Once your course is complete, we would recommend a periodic visit to assess any growth.
